DR. MARIA PSOMA
I have faced the truth first!
I was obese as a teenager and I have personally suffered racism and rejection in the most sensitive age, since children are the most honest but yet the most cruel judges. With great effort, deprivation, and without the necessary guidance, I managed to lose extra pounds. However this difficult period of my life proved to determine my later career path.
My studies at the Medical School of the University of Athens and the specialty that I chose (Biopathologist) gave me the necessary skills to understand the problem of obesity in proper scientific basis and to understand that the solution is not limited to a simple diet. After a thorough investigation, I obtained postgraduate specialization in France, the Medical School of Paris, entitled: “Medicine and surgery of obesity”.
This specialization has widen my horizons. Even today I continue to discover and gain invaluable knowledge on contemporary holistic approach of a global health problem such as obesity. I was impressed of how persistent my French teachers were in mental dimension of the problem but now, after years of experience, I understand the importance and the essential role it plays in battle with obesity.
Obesity fight is based in three main axes:
Body health offered by proper, balanced diet I strongly believe that has to be reflected in our outward appearance. This belief has driven to my second medical specialization, in Anti-Aging Medicine by the American Academy of Anti-Aging. Today I’m officially Board Certified to Antiaging Medicine.
Anti-aging therefore focuses on prevention through medical supervision, in conjunction with the best aesthetic result. Quality of life without diseases that afflict us in long term such as osteoporosis, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, is of primary importance.
